Axis LMS Website Designer Widgets

The Website Designer allows administrators to create a custom experience for their users through a variety of different means: branding, page groups, and a customizable menu. But what really has the most visual impact on your Axis LMS Websites are the widgets you choose to add.

Widgets are self contained mini applications, which perform a function on the pages they’re placed. The "User Courses" widget, for example, shows the user the Courses they are already enrolled in; while the "Course Enrollment Catalog" shows which courses the user is able to enroll into.

When adding widgets to your Public Website or your Learning Portal, the administrator interface is intentionally light; allowing you to more easily identify and work with each widget’s settings. But when you preview the page you’re working on, you’ll be able to see your placement and settings in action.

All Training, and Instructor Led Training

From the user’s perspective, the visuals and layout of the Course Listings are all very similar. However, how each of the three operate, and what is displayed to the user will vary depending on which widget you decide to add.

Available Training

The Available Training widget provides the admin the filtering tools to restrict what variety of content displays to the user. Unfiltered, it can show Courses, ILT Programs, Certification Programs, and Learning Paths.

Additional filters the admin can apply can have this widget display only for-sale/purchasable items from those learning types; only the free-to-enroll varieties; or combine the two.

Finally, the admin can also utilize User Keywords to only show a subset of the LMS training catalog.

User Enrolled Training

Similar to the The Available Training widgets provides the admin the filtering tools to restrict what variety of content displays to the user. Unfiltered, it can show Courses, ILT Programs, Certification Programs, and Learning Paths. It also utilizes the same filtering options.

The main difference? This widget is only showing those items the user is already enrolled into; Available Training shows items they can enroll into (which would move them into the Enrolled Training widget).

ILT Upcoming Training

If you're delivering ILT-driven training, the ILT Upcoming Training widget is an excellent candidate for something forward facing and hard-to-miss on your User's interface. Exactly as advertised, this widget signals to users when their next upcoming ILT meeting approaches, so they can single-click enter into the meeting when it starts.

Articles

The three widgets are populated from your Site Design > Online Articles area. Using Keywords and Catagories, you can refine what articles the widgets below are capable of displaying on different pages, to different users.

Article

By itself, this widget renders a single article to users and visitors; selected by the page's site designer.

However, when used on the same page as either of the widgets below, this wiget will dynamically render its contents, based on the selection(s) a user makes from the search/listing.

Article Listing

When adding the Article Listing, the author will select what Category of articles this will pull from, how many articles this should list, and how they should list (simple, or verbose). A simple listing is just the article name; verbose shows a small preview into the contents of the article itself.

Used by itself, if an article is selected from this widget, it will take the user to a new page; if used in conjunction with the "Article" widget, the Article widget will update the article it is currently rendering to the selected option.

Article Search

This widget requires the Sidebar widget to function!

Unlike traditional widgets, the Article Search hooks into the Sidebar widget, utilizing some of the real-estate the sidebar reserves for the Article Search's search bar and results.

Similar to the Article Listing, this widget can also hook into the "Article" widget, dynamically changing what is rendered to the user's selection; but will otherwise take users to a new page.

Automations

Unlike standard widgets, Automations to not render to users at all. Instead, they are actions taken by the LMS on the user, based on different criteria about the user. Such criteria includes Usergroup, Organization/Branches, Profile Fields, and System Tracking Variables.

If the user has passed the profile check, and an action is going to be made on the user from the Automation, the following actions can be performed on the user:

    • Adding / Removing from a Usergroup
    • Adding / Removing from an Organization
    • Enrolling / Dis-enrolling the user from a Course

If Enrolling a User in this method, no Course Expiration Date will be set via this Automation. A second, in-course, Automation checking for "Course Start" is a great way to set this end date.

    • Extending a user's System Expiration Date
    • Awarding the User a Badge

This Automation can only award Badges whose settings allow them to be awarded via Automations.

    • Setting a User Profile Field
    • Setting a System Tracking Variable
    • Setting the user's Localization

Calendar, Messages, Notebooks, Forums

These all exist as menu options as well

Messages Listing

The Messages Listing allows you to embed the full capabilities of the Axis Messaging system into your Users’ Learning Portal. Depending on your Messaging settings, your users will be able to see critical system messages; communicate directly with the administrator, or a sub-admin; or privately message their fellow users.

Forum Listing

Similar to the Messages listing, the Forum Listing also allows you to embed the Forum application right into Learning Portal. With this widget, users will be able to access and participate int any Usergroup-based forums.

Simple Forum Listing

The Simple Forum Listing is a condensed view of the Usergroup-based forums the user has access to. When a user views a forum, the full forum application will be brought up for the user.

Checklists, Libraries, and Video

Types of outside-the-course training materials.

Checklist

Renders a selected Checklist to the user. The level of user-interactivity permitted by this Widget is determined by the settings applied to the selected Checklist.

Resource Library

This widget renders the MP3, MP4, and PDF/HTML contents of a selected in-system 'library' folder to the user. The widget can be edited to restrict which of these files types can be viewed. Using other Library functionality, PNGs and JPGs of the same file name can be uploaded to be used as the rendered thumbnail image for these content items; and uploading a TXT file of the same name allows the admin to assign a hover description for the content items.

Video Types

The Video widgets allows an in-line delivery from certain video hosts. YouTube and Amazon s3 allows the admin to plug in a valid host's URL; while an Uploaded Video widget allows you to select from any of your MP4s uploaded to your /_videos/ folder.

E-Commerce, Reports & Scores

Archived Reports

The "Archived Reports" widget is a fairly basic widget, aimed at delivering the user with a consolidated view of their past course history. Each Archived Course will display to the user, along with the date it was archived, their Progress, Average, and Time in Course.

Certificate Repository

A simplified listing of the different Certificate types a user can earn, broken down into a column listing. Displays the Certificate source's name, the type (CEU/Certification, ILT, Learning Path, Online Course), when it was earned, and a link to the Certificate itself.

Completed Training Summary

A simplified view of every piece of completed training associated with the viewer's account, broken down into a column listing. Displays the completed training's name, the type (CEU/Certification, ILT, Learning Path, Online Course, Online Course [Archived]), and when it was marked as completed.

My Certifications

Both the "My Certifications" and "My CEUs" widgets help users keep track of their progress through different certifications. As most settings surrounding Certification Programs are done through the "talent" area of the administrator area, the settings these widgets offer are slim.

Through the Certifications widget, users can view the Certifications they’ve earned, and peek into each to find a printable version, as well as see which CEUs they’ve earned for each Certification.

My CEUs

Through the "My CEUs" widget, users can find a listing of all the CEU credit they’ve earned within your Axis system, and zoom in to find which Certification Programs (that the user is enrolled in) which the CEUs count towards.

Report Card

Similar to a Grade School report card, the "Report Card" widget gives the user an up to date glimpse of their progress and average in each of their courses. This widget gives users the ability to print out this overview snapshot; or users can zoom in on a course by course basis to see their grades on a quiz by quiz basis for each course.

Order History

A complete listing of every transaction the user has successfully completed through the Axis system. The listings include an order number, a date and timestamp, and the grand total for the purchase. If the user zooms into the transaction, they can find a breakdown of which products were purchased with each order, any coupons or discounts that were applied, and the tax on the purchase.

Navigation & Sidebar

Sidebars

Part of the default layout for the Learning Portal, the sidebar widgets (left side and right side) house navigation, as well as several other elements. Designed to help your user side look more contemporary and uniform, these widgets offer the users some UserConnect synopsis; as well as a quick view of their (system) avatar, and open the full UserConnect experience.

These widgets also hook into some other widgets you'll find on this page; adapting what is presented on the sidebar widget to fit the needs of certain widget styles.

Note: the sidebar widgets are NOT compatible with fixed width Learning Portals.

Nav Bar

A navigation 'block', where the listed pages are 'stacked' in a sandwich-style. Can be edited to change the color theme, as well as the page groups rendered.

Nav Strip

A thin 'strip', where the listed pages are juxtaposed next to each other. Can be edited to change the color theme, as well as the page groups rendered.

Slide-in Nav

A hidden Navigation, where the user can toggle to bring in or hide the navigation as needed. Can be edited to change the color theme, as well as the page groups rendered.

User Connect

Badge Leaderboard

The Badge leaderboard shows the top 15 users in the system, in terms of number of badges earned.

Post to Wall

A short message field where users can type in brief messages to post to their wall.

User Badges

A breakdown of all the badges the user has earned across the system

UserConnect Viewport

Rather than inserting a piece of userconnect into the Learning Portal, the ViewPort added the entirety of UserConnect right onto the User’s Learning Portal.

User Summary

A trimmed down view of the user’s full userconnect profile.

Other

These widgets don't quite fit into any other categories, but they all have their uses.

Redeem Keycode

The Learning Portal's Redeem Keycode widget allows logged in users to enter in valid keycodes. After entering their keycodes, the user will be enrolled into any associated courses.

Design Elements

Lines, Whitespace, and Text Passage widgets all allow for some more common elements to be added to your Learning Portal pages.

Web Dev tools

CSS, Page JavaScript, and Embedded Web Pages allow more tech-savvy admins to incorporate web-based code onto specific pages (opposed to applying to the Learning Portal as a whole.
