Keep Your Trainees Engaged with Axis LMS

Badges in Axis LMS

The most recent update to Axis LMS introduced a new concept to the system, commonly referred to as “Gamification”.

This concept draws inspiration from what the gaming industry has been doing for years: giving their ‘players’ small threshold achievements.

The real appeal of these achievements is that these small advances – the user always striving to unlock the next ‘thing’ – keeps your trainees engaged on to your system, increasing engagement.

Inside Axis LMS, this is mirrored through a Talent system referred to as Badges. Through the use of Badges, you are able to award your users for completing Online Courses, earning Certifications, and achieving high scores … and by implementing Badges capable of being awarded by Event Triggers, you’re able to award Badges for other thresholds — such as passing a specific quiz, finishing a presentation, posting on UserConnect or Forums, and much more. Joining the Admin-User Environments in Axis LMS

axis lmsAs an Axis LMS administrator, you were always able to create an environment for your users, but now, you’re able to link an existing user account to your administrator login; this provides you a lot of new tools, that are otherwise exclusive to users.

After linking your LMS admin account to a user account, your administrator interface will immediately update to reflect the change. New toolbars will become available, allowing you to quickly access Live Chat, and your UserConnect Profile. These icons are present on every page, alongside your Helpdesk tools. You will also be able to open these from the  new Communicate tab.

Once you are linked with a user account, you are also able to quickly one-click test your online courses. While managing any course, click the Test This Course button to automatically enroll and launch the course as your linked user. While the course is open, you can also backtrack to your Learning Portal to test out your changes in real time. (more…)

Continuing Education & Certifications in Axis LMS

certificationIf you’re working with a state or a governing board that works with certifications, Axis LMS provides a way for you to deliver renewable certifications / licensing to your users!

By assigning your existing courses a CEU value, you can structure your online training into Continuing Education Certification Programs — enabling your users to both certify, and re-certify on a regular basis.

To earn their initial certification, users will be required to complete the designated course inside of Axis LMS.

Afterwards, renewal will require users to earn the necessary amount of CEU credits, which are awarded by completing courses that have CEU credits eligible towards the certification.

Things like setting up email reminders to your users (letting them know when its time to re-certify) are also part of the  options you can configure for your Continuing Education programs. (more…)

Progress and Score Weights in Axis LMS

weightMany would argue that a three question quiz should not carry as much weight as a one hundred question, end-of-course final.

By using tools built right into Axis LMS, you can give each of your quizzes and learning objects a numeric value to determine how much it should advance a user in their course.

In short – you can make your end-of-course exam worth 20% of the entire course; while your short quizzes are worth far less.

In fact, you can go a step further; any content you consider ‘optional’ or ‘practice’ can be added to a course, and carry no weight whatsoever.

This allows your users to take on additional training before confronting the heavily valued finals, without forcing your other users (who don’t need the training) to have their progress hindered.

Using Progress and Score weights efficiently also opens up new capabilities in your Page and Section display rules.

Knowing how much a learning object will advance a user’s progress lets you coordinate the rest of your course more effectively; hiding and revealing other content as you desire. (more…)

Setting up LMS Certificates in Axis LMS

LMS Certificates
The ability to certify your users is a benefit of using Axis LMS. But how your user achieves that Certification can vary  depending on your business; for example, when an employee or customer passes a quiz, or completes a series of quizzes, or, they’ve finished a combination of different classes.

Axis LMS addresses these different scenarios by providing you with several highly customizable LMS certificate types, which can be used either independently, or in conjunction with each other.

Of the various LMS certificate types, Quiz LMS Certificates are the simplest, and one of the most commonly used.

They have one requirement – pass the quiz.

Course LMS Certificates require both a Score and Progress percentile to be achieved before becoming accessible. Unlike Quiz LMS Certificates, these may be accessed by the user, but aren’t valid until they’ve met the requirements.

Competency LMS Certificates require a passing score in multiple courses, as well as eligibility for the certification. Every user could theoretically complete the same courses, but only users from eligible user-groups are capable of earning the Competency Certification.

Certification Program LMS Certificates are the only certification within Axis LMS that is renewable. Once a certification is earned, users can take courses to earn CEU credits towards recertification of the program. (more…)

Personalized Learner Experiences in Axis LMS

axis lmsWhile every company may not find use from the Axis LMS Account website (the public-facing site), every Axis LMS administrator is able to take advantage of the User Learning Portal (private site). This portal acts as the central learning hub for your users.

One very useful feature is the ability to set up different branding and even entire viewing experiences for users based on (for example) what company they are from (if you are selling training to external companies), or what group or department they are in.

By using Page Groups efficiently, you can give users drastically different experiences; whether this is for sake of branding, or because the users are on different payment tiers, Page Groups can automatically direct your users to the Learning Portal that is appropriate for them.

This same concept of page groups can also be used to create multi-tiered navigation menus that can be used both in the Axis LMS Learning Portal and  Account Website. (more…)

Website Design Tools in Axis LMS

website
It may not be evident, but you can create a custom, fully functional website using tools in Axis LMS. As a mater of fact, you can create both the public-facing, and private-access sites, and even create e-commerce stores on both sites.

While certainly not the substitute for a seasoned website designer, you will most  likely be pleasantly surprised how easy it is to create beautiful, functional site designs that align to your business processes and branding, using the tools available to you in Axis LMS – with no design experience needed.

When branding your site, aside from assigning your own page banners, you have complete control over CSS and JavaScript (including jQuery) on a site-level and page-level basis (so, if you have a web designer on your staff, they will love the fact that these tools are available to them). There are also tools that enable entry of meta-data for your public-facing site – which works towards creating SEO friendly pages.

Using Videos in Axis LMS

video
Axis LMS can offer a tremendous amount of utility for your company, and one of the most evident examples of this is the built in website designer. Both the Account Website and System Website give you the opportunity to show off your products, your philosophies, and your company as a whole.

One of the most popular design choices for company websites is to incorporate videos, both promotional and informational advertisements. Depending on the layout you’ve chosen for your pages, how you weave these videos into the site may differ, but there are 3 primary methods: Resource Libraries, Articles, and stand-alone videos.

While videos can certainly be tracked and required to watch as part of training, this article will discuss the various ways you can incorporate videos that do not need to be viewed as part of training.

Providing Responsive Service to Your LMS Users

axis lms
In any industry, customer service should be considered a direct extension of your product. If you are ‘selling’ your training to customers (either solely, or as an additional function of your LMS), providing good service is paramount to customer satisfaction.

Before any money has been exchanged, the buyer has already formed an opinion on the quality of service they’re likely to receive; and those companies with better customer service are more likely to attract and retain repeat customers.

We encourage you to take full advantage of all the Axis LMS features that will assist you in providing responsive service to your LMS users. (more…)

LMS Competency Programs in Axis LMS

LMS Competency ProgramsAxis LMS includes the ability to set up competency programs for your employees. By incorporating competencies, you’ll be able to create structured learning paths and required online course completions for employees, enabling you to evaluate skill sets across your organization.

Using the competencies feature, you create learning paths where employees need to pass multiple courses in order to be considered competent in a certain skill set. Upon completion of the competency requirements, they are awarded a certificate of completion.

With competencies, you can decide how your employees access the content.

While creating the competency, you’ll be able to enforce participation and completion requirements such as creating ‘elective’ courses a user can choose from within a select group of courses, what courses are required, and in what order employees are able to complete these courses. (more…)

Time Released Content in Axis LMS

clock contentAre you looking to have a certificate display to your LMS trainees after they spend a certain amount of time in a course? Do you want unlock access to new learning content on a daily or weekly basis? These scenarios (and more)  are possible within Axis LMS.

There are many ways to control how users access content.

For example, you can limit when each content module is able to be taken, how much time users have to spend in a particular module, and even the amount of time they need to spend on a slide before moving to the next. You can also set up your course to require a proctor to be present in order to access certain content.

Sell Online Courses via Subscriptions with Axis LMS

sell online coursesThere are several ways that you are able to sell online courses via subscriptions, but overall, you can use the ‘Other Products’ (found in the ShoppingCart) to create these. You have the ability to offer subscriptions to individual courses, or to the system — enabling your customers access to multiple courses for a certain amount of time you define.

Additionally, you don’t have to create the same course with different lengths of time.

You can create multiple ‘Other Products’ and use the product triggers to enroll or extend the user into the same course for a certain amount of days. (more…)

Set up Immediate Feedback for your LMS Quizzes

LMS QuizzesInstead of users receiving feedback upon completion (as in a graded quiz), a great way to enhance a trainee’s understanding is to also use non-graded LMS quizzes in your online courses.

Using this type of learning object, you can mix presentation slides with questions, which trainees must answer correctly to progress through the exercise.

With immediate feedback, it’s more about delivering some information on a topic, and then testing your trainees understanding of that information as they progress. (more…)

Building a Resource Library in Axis LMS

Library WidgetOne of the sets of portal widgets you can add in Axis LMS is Library Widgets. These widgets can be placed in both the learning portal website (for your users to view) and the account website (for visitors to view).

With the library widgets, you can easily provide your users with different reference libraries. These libraries can consist of Audio, document and video files. You can also add a full resource library that will list multiple resource types in a single view.

There are a couple different things that you can do to make these resources your own. You have the ability to assign a specific icon as well as a description to each item in the library. Optionally, you can show the listing as tiles or as a list, and whether or not to display a search bar to filter the displayed results. (more…)

Automating and Customizing Axis LMS Reports

Scheduled LMS ReportsScheduled LMS  Reports enable you to set up reports to be emailed or saved as a document at regular intervals. After these reports are scheduled, you can run them at will, temporarily disable the report, or remove it entirely.

One of the great things about scheduled lms reports is that you have control over what fields appear in the report. You can choose from any of the user profile fields (including the 15 customizable ones), as well as course data such as progress, average and time spent in the course. They also have similar filter settings like the lms course reports do.

With scheduled lms reports you can use the email settings to specify who you would like these automatic reports to be sent to. This may come in handy if you have specific people in charge of certain users or to send reminders to the admin. (more…)

LMS Certificates in Axis LMS

LMS certificatesThe ability to certify your users is a benefit of using Axis LMS, but how your leaners achieve LMS certificates can vary  depending on your business process and goals.

For example, it can be as simple as issuing an LMS certificate when a learner passes a quiz, or linked to a completion of a training course, or, an achievement of a skill which involves participation in various learning courses.

Axis LMS addresses these different scenarios by providing you with several highly customizable LMS certificates: Quiz, Course, and Curriculum (or Competency) LMS certificates (and, a 4th type not discussed – Certification LMS Certificates, will be available as of Axis LMS 10.4 – relates to the world of Continuing Education and CEU’s).

LMS Certificates can be used either independently, or in conjunction with each other.

Manage Users Effectively in Axis LMS

LMS UsersOver time, its possible that not all of your users are going to be regularly accessing the system. Axis LMS has implemented different states for your users: Active and Inactive.

While a user is Inactive, they cannot interact or log into the system, but you (as the admin) can continue to access their report information and user account information – especially useful for historical records or compliance audits. As the admin, you may also continue to pull up any certifications they have earned while they were active.

By contrast, Active state allows for the user to interact with the system. Active users can login to the system, enroll into courses, and participate in course activities. Active users also have access to UserConnect, Forums, and Messaging (if you have enabled these features). As the admin, you also retain all the functionality you have for Inactive users, and a whole lot more.

An important difference regarding the user states is that Inactive users are always unlimited, and do not count towards the billable user count. You can use the tools and resources in Axis LMS to better manage your Active users — deactivating users that no longer need to be active, and therefore keeping your Active user count in check. Learning Management System E-Commerce

By leveraging the ability to sell over 1,500 pre-built online courses (the Content Library), you are able to do just that! You can easily add the pre-created content from the library to your system and then sell it for as much or as little as you want.

The best part about selling the pre-built content is that you only get billed for what your users actually use (and have purchased) — thereby eliminating all risk! You can even combine the modules from the pre-built content with your own content to make more robust courses. (more…)

Automating Online Training in Axis LMS

LMS image

The ultimate goal of many trainers is to reach the pinnacle point where they can be completely hands off, allowing their LMS to automate both the user life cycle, and all of administrative necessities; such as reporting.

For most companies, cutting labor costs is associated with this scenario. For companies that sell training through an LMS, boosting profits is an added benefit – especially when introducing automated email messages alerting trainees when they need to re-certify or re-enroll into a course to obtain their certificate or CEU credits.

While this may be more or less attainable depending on your business model, by utilizing the many different tools within Axis LMS, you may be able to reach the point where you can spend your time elsewhere – letting the LMS automate most of the tasks. (more…)
